Discover British Columbia’s View of the Northern Lights

A sky full of stars envelopes the silhouette of a mountainous skyline. Deep purple hues are contrasted by an eerie green glow. The reflection of the sublime scene is duplicated on an inky black lake. It’s a supernatural setting. And it’s home.

We will never tire of admiring the infinite beauty of the Milky Way. Stargazing is a reward for those who play in nature. After all, you’ll have to escape the bright city lights to appreciate a star-filled sky. With the appearance of the Perseids, August is an especially ethereal month. These fleeting meteors scream through the night’s sky. Those with the time and patience to stalk the Perseids with a camera are richly rewarded. I’m thankful for the talent of those who capture them; I was never able to spy any myself. Such a shame. For those who love admiring the heavens as much as the staffers in our office, and for those who missed the Perseids, here are nine captures of British Columbia’s Northern Lights. Enjoy!

“This photo was taken on the drive home from Nukko Lake. The moon was casting some cool light on the field so I decided to pull over and grab some more photos. Not sure if it was a meteor striking above the moon or the SSS Sattelite flying around.”
