Khutzeymateen grizzly bears

Many of the photographs in the Fall 2013 article “The secret lives of bears” were created in the provincial Khutzeymateen/K’tzim-a-Deen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, located at the head of Khutzeymateen Inlet on British Columbia’s mainland coast. The sanctuary protects at least 50 grizzlies.

The photographs in this gallery were originally published in conjunction with our Spring 2008 cover article on grizzlies, and were contributed by photographers Michael Bednar of 108 Mile Ranch and Wendy Shymanski of Victoria.

Wendy Shymanski is co-author of Fortress of the Grizzlies (Heritage House, 2003), a book about the Khutzeymateen bears. To learn more about photographer Michael Bednar, visit www.bednarphoto.com
